I know there is some negative press going around about The Anita and Meredith series but I urge each and everyone of you to at least try these books for yourself and form your own opinions. This book is imaginative, thrilling and Merrys character just shines. I have already read all the books to this series up to date and just had to read this one again. I couldnt put this book down for a second. Happy Reading. It was that great. Normally im a fast reader and can read a book in about a day, but this book of about 400 plus pages i read in one afternoon. I was already addicted to Anita Blake and thought LKH couldnt possible match her , boy was I wrong.
(The author does certainly seem to have more than a passing interest in long hair for men, though). I like the world the author created, and the plot was interesting and fast-paced, for the most part. I did see a lot of similarities to the Anita Blake series, but enough differences to make worthwhile to me. I downloaded this one as a Kindle freebie awhile back and just got around to reading it. Overall, it was a good read, and I'm planning on reading the next in the series to see where it leads. The beginning chapters seemed a little slow to me, so I assumed the rest would be, too. I tried once before, but couldn't seem to get into it. I'm glad I gave it another chance because it ended up being a pretty good read.
:) The author could definitely cut back on the descriptions and the phrase "the pain was sharp and immediate" was used like 4 times, but it was a fun tale to get lost in. I thought the story was fun and a great fantasy for any woman who wouldn't mind a harem of beautiful men. It was certainly nice to read something that really felt new for a change. I can understand that people might think some of the parts of the story were perverse or disgusting, but I read this book as if I was reading about a completely alien culture (which I was) and the weirdness of it all made it feel more real to me. I think that if this immortal race had the same attitudes as us about sex, it would not only be boring, but surprising that they were so much like us after thousands of years.
One more thing, this is a book that is common in series, it sets up the series so lots of back ground and the reader must work to get a handle on the creatures, faeries, sidhe, brownies, goblins, orges and oh yes, humans. Sex is a giant topic in this book, be aware. I am a new reader of Hamilton, well I read on Anita Hill book long ago, and decided on faeries over vampires, so I picked up A KISS OF SHADOWS.
Well, forget that in this book, I guess later books. As I said, I enjoyed it and look forward to the next one. Meredith Gentry is Meredith NicEssus of the Unseelie Court of sidhe, hiding for years, but now called home, dangerous as it is.
Ok, I enjoyed the book. P.I. Recommended.
First off the warning: adult book here. The cover says Meredith Gentry.
Uh-oh, looks like reading this un-edited drivel is just as bad as listening to it. I thought of trying again with a hardcopy version of the book, but then I checked out the other reviews. Because I enjoyed the Anita Blake series, I really wanted to like this series, too.
I only made it through Chap 6 before I gave up. were agonizing. I checked out the audio version of A Kiss of Shadows from the library.
And, what was worse is that with an audio book it is pretty much impossible to skip to the next actual development in the plot (such as it is, and as of the end of Chap 6, it isn't much). I'd give this book zero stars if there were such a rating. The lack of plot, repetitive (read: on and on and on and on.).
descriptions of body parts, clothing, hair, etc.
